In this month’s PearlArts Round-Up, we’re sharing a recent interview by True T Pittsburgh of contemporary dancer Joy-Marie Thompson. Joy-Marie and collaborator Sherah Shipman were PearlDiving Movement Resident Artists in Spring 2019 developing a new work called “LINKt: A Dance Film”. This month’s recommended read comes from our co-executive and artistic director Staycee Pearl and explores the latest on LINKt and representation of queer, black artists today.

We work together to really heal because black people have been waiting for permission to come to terms with what happened to us. And it’s not going to happen, no one is going to give it to us. We have to start hunkering down on our people and making sure we are there for each other.
